Five Star Bow Report by Bill Krenz
2008 APA Viper

It’s fun to be pleasantly surprised now and then, and particularly so when testing new bows. Some bows just don’t hold many surprises. They may perform well, but they’re familiar and basically more of the same old same old. The bows that are fun are the ones that offer something new.

One of the most surprising new bows I’ve shot in some time is the 2008 APA Viper.

APA Innovations is a Canadian archery company with surprising ideas. They burst on the archery scene several years ago with a series of ingenious total-containment arrow rests...

Black Mamba is a name that strikes fear in the hearts of men.Claimed to be the deadliest snake in the world, due to the toxic venom, amazing speed (15 MPH), size (up to 13ft), agility, and aggressiveness. This snake fears nothing, because it's venom is lethal to everything.

APA Innovations has rightly named their bow the Black Mamba Xtreme, and this bow should strike fear into the other bow companies of the world. The simple fact that APA has only been in the bow market since 2005 tells you right away that they are a force to be reckoned with. Nibal and the staff at APA Innovations are a top of the line crew, who are serious about their products, and taking care of archers...

I shot this 350+ lbs. Mule Deer with my Black Mamba bow quartering away at about 45 yards. I never would of taken this shot with the other bows I have used but after shooting this bow at the range all winter I never even hesitated. This bow shoots incredible and will build confidence in your shot greatly.

A friend of mine who shoots your Suphan model summed it up by saying I LOVE TO SHOOT THIS BOW and he is right. I never get tired of shooting mine either.Great to shoot, great to carry with the integral handle and handy little extras like the Broadhead tightener, nock adjuster and knife sharpener.I especially like the Broadhead wrench. And most of all awesome awesome speed and penetration.Hands down the best bow I have ever shot and probably ever will. Thanks again.

I had an unbelievable season. I went Elk hunting in August and shot a cow the third day of the season. This is my first elk I have shot with the bow. Two days later I shot a 5 x 5 whitetail that scored 135.

Then on September 1 I shot a mulie that scored 206 non-typical (net). Usually I'm just starting to hunt on Sept. 1, but this year I'm done! One good thing about being done this early is it's still barbeque season.

The Suphan gave me unbelievable confidence. A 40 yard shot is like a 20 yard shot with myoid bow and I will never go to any other rest. Thanks for the time you spent helping me get sized and set up. There's nothing like small town service.

My brother, Cory, also says thanks for the time you spent with him on his bow. He shot a spiker elk and a 150 Mule deer. Not bad for his first bow hunting season.

I thought I better send you a couple pictures, I took this bear Sept 6, 2007 with my X2. It was a 15 yard double lung hit and the bear only went about 30 yards. It tipped the scales at 300 + pounds.

My X2 is set at 65 pounds and the Tekon tipped Beeman Max 4 passed through and buried in the ground about 8 inches.

The X2 is an awesome bow, it is fast, smooth, accurate and hand shock free. I am a bow hunter first, 3-D shooter when time permits, My wife Marcia also shoots an AP A Suphan and loves it, My daughter Shelby, 17, and my son Katlin, 14, shoot also, Marcia and Shelby shoot in a league in the winter and shoot some 3-D's in the summer, Katlin also likes to compete but loves to hunt. Our archery deer season just opened here in Iowa, if we have some luck I will send you more pictures.

Thanks for building such awesome bows.

If you're wondering which bow holds the "Fastest Bow in the World" title for 2006, it's time to meet APA's Black Mamba Extreme.  This parallel limb monster uses APA's wickedly aggressive Venom Twin cam technology which results in a scalding fast 345 FPS bow that's surprisingly smooth at the point of the shot.  But beware, at full draw this coiled serpent is ready to strike.  We suggest experienced hands only, as the Black Mamba Extreme is not a bow for beginners.  But if you're just dying for MAX power and the hottest speeds of the season,  APA Archery has your antidote.

Dear Apa Innovations, I am emailing you to express my profound satisfaction with your bow the Taipan. It is a beautiful bow, both functionally and aesthetically. The carrying handle makes the long walk into the hunting area much more enjoyable, while still allowing for a potential shot if need be. In the past I always used a bow sling however, shooting quickly, if the opportunity arose, was impossible. I guess I'm a bit biased in my opinion because with your bow I was able to harvest a Mule Deer buck and a bull Elk in a two week period this past fall. Both animals exceed the Pope and Young minimum requirements. The bull was broadside at 38 yards and the arrow was a double lung pass- through that I found 30 yards beyond where it had been standing. This bow generates phenomenal speed and energy with very little effort, all the while affording maximum forgiveness. Thanks again Apa for a fantastic bow.

Hi Al! Again I just want to thank you for providing a quality product at an affordable price. I had been using a competitors rest which cost several more dollars than your product and it did not perform nearly as well as the APA ultimate rest. It tuned quickly and with no moving parts you just set it and forget it. Thanks again!

I have used the same arrow rest for 25 years, even after trying dozens of new innovations, which ultimately disappointed me. But when I saw the APA Ultimate arrow rest, I was impressed enough to try it and I've never looked back. I want a rest that works right because of design, not relying on springs and moving parts, which can let you down at just the wrong time.

The APA Ultimate proved itself perfectly during paper tuning and then on my whitetail hunt in British Columbia in November of 2003, allowing me to make a perfect shot on this 278-pound buck!

The APA is a very convenient and easy arrow rest to use... Its arrow containment system is safe and comforting. It's strong, durable and extremely reliable. It's lightweight , it's convenient and easy to adjust... And precise and very accurate... I found the APA Ultimate family of arrow rest to be exceptional examples of the very real progress that is being made today in the arrow rest field.
Bowhunters, especially, will like the simplicity, dependability and silence of the APA Ultimate arrow rest.

The APA ULTIMATE has given me an uncompromising rest for any type of condition in all my hunting situations, something I have never had in the past 20 years of bow hunting!

What I really like is how you can sit in a stand and hold your bow anywhich way and not have to worry about the arrow falling off. I've always been one to hold my bow the entire time that I wait, since I hate to move to grab a bow when an animal comes walking in. I now can sit my bow horizontally over my knees and not worry about losing the arrow. When I was in Ontario, there was a big windstorm as I sat waiting for a bear. This time I did have my bow on a branch. Everything was blowing so hard that I thought I'd blow right out of the tree, but my arrow was safe in its APA rest holder. We also like the quietness of the rest, especially when it gets cold and every sound seems to magnify in the woods.

While taking pictures of our 2002 bull elk, I accidentally stepped on my hunting partners bow. Jeff's APA Ultimate arrow rest was bent flat against the riser. It looked so bad we thought we'd be making a trip to the local pro shop in the morning. Not wanting to lose a day of hunting we decided to try and bend it back into place. It worked! Jeff's bow test fired perfect and without any further adjustments. I was very impressed with the strong, simple design of the APA Ultimate.
I did not own an APA Ultimate arrow rest, but I do now!

Overall the rest worked perfectly. I can tell you though that I never worried about whether my arrow was on the rest or going to falling off. All I had to do was concentrate on the shot. My shots were out to and slightly beyond 40 yards with great accuracy. No worries!
